odCMS has a minor feature that could be a major function of managing your websites by using the Generate HTML page function if your site contains only static pages (type Document – no Blog/News, Gallery, or Forum). This function uses the theme you have selected together with the content for the pages to generate the HTML documents. Once all the pages have been generated, including the index and site map pages, you can display the site’s contents with just the generated HTML documents and odCMS is no longer needed.

Note: index page is shown when page name is not included; site map page is generated by using the Page=_sitemap_ or by clicking on the Sitemap icon at the bottom of the page.

I decided to test-drive 2.40 on my Ubuntu Linux machine (it’s a 3-years old AMD Sempron machine with 512MB of RAM).

The installation files are available for download from Sourceforge. I decided to use the Bitrock installer. One thing to remember when you install O – you need to setup your machines’ local environment first( Java, Tomcat, PostgreSQL). Make sure you follow the instructions here.

Once you have the environment setup, using the Bitrock installer is easy as installing any windows application (just Next,Next,Next, supplying some parameters of your Java and DBMS environment). The installer spent more of the time on building the Opnebravo database objects.
